“£101 million for local transport should go towards the Hereford Bypass and making Ledbury Station accessible”, says MP Bill Wiggin
“I welcome the recently announced £101,851,000 that Herefordshire Council will receive to improve the county’s local transport.
For many years I have been campaigning on the need for a bypass in Hereford, a brilliant investment for which the previous Green-Independent Council threw away the opportunity for funding.
I have also long campaigned for better accessibility at Ledbury Train Station.
The eastbound platform of the station is not accessibility to those with limited mobility and the station has a B3 accessibility rating.
Thankfully the Council is already receiving £106 million for road resurfacing, which will hopefully repair the hazardous state in which the previous Council left our roads.
This leaves the £101 million from the Local Transport Fund to be spent on funding the first phase of the much-needed bypass and accessibility enhancements at Ledbury Train Station, and I will do what I can to ensure the Council does not miss this opportunity.”
The Local Transport Fund has been made possible by the redirection of funds from HS2.
The funds will help enhance local stations, public transport and decrease congestion levels.
